Living by design or living by default?
Following the crowd, i,e living by default, is all too common in the world of finance.
The “crowd” does things like take out a home loan with a 30-year loan term, make the minimum home loan repayment, and believe that your lending options are limited to the big four banks in Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ and NAB.
The “crowd” gets a result of paying double the amount they borrowed in unnecessary interest, working longer and possibly into retirement, and if they are lucky enough to own their own home when they retire, don’t have enough money to do the things they dreamt about when they were working like travelling or taking up new hobbies.
Many also have a desire to help the kids to get into the property market as it’s getting harder and harder but simply can’t afford to.
If this is the result you want and are content with, then stop reading.
Life by design, or the road less travelled, can be extremely rewarding if you take the time to explore it.
If you want a different result, like paying off your home loan in under 10 years, retiring earlier and having more than enough money to do the things in retirement you are dreaming about, and even help the kids break into the property market, the good news is that all of this is possible.
The first step is to start thinking about all of things you want, when you want them, and why. These are called your goals. Write them down.
Next is to work out the strategy or game plan to achieve your goals. Here, we suggest you engage the services of professionals like finance strategists who can help you to understand proven strategies to pay off your home loan faster and build wealth through property.
You may find that achieving everything you want today is simply unachievable, but you may also find that you can achieve some or nearly all of the things you want.
How would you know unless you try?
